Microsoft has quietly revealed that their upcoming mobile operation system, Windows Mobile 7, has been delayed until the second half of 2009.
No comment from Microsoft on the move, but with the iPhone and Android operating systems getting all the attention right now and Palm’s next major OS release coming (one day) hopefully the extra time means it will be extra polished.
Meet the new Treo Pro (formerly thought to be the Treo 850), a new smartphone coming from Palm that…looks a lot like other Palm devices, but is shiny and black.
The Treo Pro will be a Windows Mobile device that appears to have what you’d expect from a Treo–touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, stylus, built-in camera, etc. Exact specs aren’t out yet but some basic info can be seen in presentation screenshots and a couple of pics.
Since technically we’re not supposed to know about the Treo Pro yet there isn’t any pricing or release info available just yet but I’d guess that info can’t be far behind.
Is it me? I’m having trouble getting excited about this at all. Just another Treo, just another Windows Mobile handset.
Maybe it will prove me wrong when it gets released.
Another leaked handset has made its way out of Motorola, this time the ‘Atila’.
While similar to the previously leaked Alexander, the Atila won’t feature a QWERTY keyboard and will instead use a touchscreen.
Features of the Atila are expected to include:
- Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system
- Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
- Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850MHz/1900MHz/2100MHz)
- 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 1.8Mbps HSUPA
- 1130mAh battery
- 2.8″ QVGA 240 x 320 screen
- Wi-Fi b/g
- Qualcomm 7201A chipset
No word on when it might be hitting stores…could be a few months still.
Motorola has been hard at work on their next big cellphone code named “Alexander” and courtesy of BGR the first leaked shot of it is out.
Features of the Alexander will include:
- Windows Mobile 6.1
- 5 – 8 megapixel (still up in the air somewhat, I guess)
- NVIDIA chip for 3D graphics (please don’t be a G84 or G86).
Hoping for a Q4 release this year, the Alexander is being thought of by some as Motorola’s last chance.
It’s funny…it reminds me a bit of the mock-up floating around of the rumored iPhone Nano, but with a slide-out keyboard. And no OS X-based operating system, of course.
Is it me? I just can’t buy a device running Windows Mobile. Maybe version 7 will change my mind?
