Metal Gear Solid 4 dominates the video game sales charts for June

mgs4_box.jpg

Metal Gear Solid fans anxious to hear how well the latest in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, is selling will be pleased to hear that for the month of June it blew everything else away.

According to sales figures from NPD, MGS4 sold 774,600 copies in June. For some perspective, that’s almost as many as the sales figure for the number two title (Guitar Hero On Tour for the Nintendo DS) and the number three title (Ninja Gaiden II for the Xbox 360) combined.

That figure of 774,600 is for the individual software and does not include any numbers for bundles that include the game.

For a little more perspective, as big as that figure is (and it really is a big score for Sony) it’s still way below the numbers for Halo 2 and Halo 3 which each sold more than 2 million copies on the first day they were released.

MGS4 Bluetooth headset reviewed

mgs4_bluetooth_headset.jpg

Along with Metal Gear Solid 4, Sony is also introducing a Metal Gear Solid branded Bluetooth headset you can use with the game or even pair with your cellphone…but you may not want to.

GadgetMadness got their hands on one and while they liked how easy it was to operate and agreed that it looked cooler than most other Bluetooth headsets, but among the negatives where:

  • Awful voice quality when using it with a cellphone. When used with the PS3 the voice quality was a bit better but still worse than other Bluetooth headsets.
  • Proprietary USB charger.
  • Uncomfortable to wear for long periods.

Some of the comments posted to that review are wondering if GadgetMadness might have gotten a bad unit and that is entirely possible. If you’re thinking about picking one up you might want to check out a few more reviews first.

This is NOT the limited edition bundle being sold only through Konami’s website, but it is still a gunmetal gray unit with matching controller.
