Comcast announces 250GB download cap
Comcast yesterday announced that beginning on October 1st users of it’s broadband service will officially have a download cap of 250GB per month.
While a cap existed previously, the number wasn’t explicit so this new policy should be easier to enforce.
250GB is a pretty huge number and a lot of users will never get close to using this number. The hope with a cap like this is to hit people who might be sharing copyrighted material over peer-to-peer networks.
BUT, there are also some legitimate uses for consuming high bandwidth, such as downloading HD movies from services like Netflix. Plus, if IPTV takes off 250GB could be pretty easy to hit.
