iPhone Dev Team releases Pwnage Tool 2.0
The iPhone Dev Team is back and have officially released version 2.0 of their Pwnage Tool for easy jailbreaking and unlocking of the original iPhone and jailbreaking only (for now) of the iPhone 3G.
What’s the difference you may be asking?
Jailbreaking your phone allows you to run apps on it that are not signed by Apple. You can run custom firmwares on your phone and be able to download and use apps that didn’t come from Apple’s App Store.
Unlocking means to remove the restriction of only being able to use the iPhone on AT&T in the US, freeing you to use it on the other national GSM-based carrier, T-Mobile.
An update to the tool is in the works that will let you unlock the 3G, but no word on when that might be ready.
Oh, and I almost forgot–if you’re an iPod Touch user you’ll be able to use the tool to jailbreak the Touch as well.
