Believe it or not, each week a lot of US travelers lose their laptop computers.

Just how many?

Are you sitting down? 12,000.

Yes, it’s try, each week roughly 12,000 laptops are lost by US travelers (around 600,000 annually) with nearly 30-percent of those are never recovered.

Of all US airports the one that reports the most missing laptops is LAX where 1,200 are lost.

Larry Ponemon of the Ponemon Institute says that “it’s staggering to learn that up to 600,000 laptops are lost in U.S. airports annually, many containing sensitive information that companies must account for.”

If you travel with a laptop, do yourself and a favor and encrypt sensitive data and keep your eyes on your laptop as it goes trough the security checkpoint. Kind of a duh thing, but some people need reminding.
