‘Significant quantities’ of NVIDIA laptop GPUs failing, company lowers Q2 revenue forecast
NVIDIA has informed its investors that “significant quantities” of some of their older GPUs are failing, though they aren’t positive at this point why.
The company does say that the failure rate is likely has something to do with a packaging material used with some of their chips as well as the thermal design of some laptops.
To help with the problem NVIDIA has released an updated driver that will turn the GPUs cooling fan on sooner to help prevent the overheating which should help with the problem.
NVIDIA also announced that it was lowering it’s revenue forecast for its second-quarter because of decreased demand, delayed development of new chips and pricing competition.
All of this news resulted in a 24 percent drop in the price of NVIDIA stock in after hours trading.
