Mars Phoenix lander finds ice on Mars
NASA scientists have made a pretty exciting announcement–there is water ice on Mars.
The Mars Phoenix lander photographed a then unknown white material. Over the course of four days the white material changed from solid to gas after being exposed by the landers digging.
Phoenix Lander’s lead investigator Peter Smith says “it must be ice…these little clumps completely disappearing over the course of a few days, that is perfect evidence that it’s ice. There had been some question whether the bright material was salt. Salt can’t do that.”
