PCI SIG releases some early info about PCI Express 3.0
Yesterday the PCI SIG (Special Interest Group) held a press conference to talk a bit about the upcoming PCI Express 3.0 specification.
While the spec isn’t expected to be finalized until late 2009, some early plans include:
- Transfer speeds of 8.0 gigatransfers per second (the actual bandwidth will depend on how wide the channel is…x16 channel is the standard now but the spec will allow for up to 32 and have roughly double the bandwidth of PCI Express 2.0)
- Will be backwards-compatible with PCI Express 2.0
- I/O virtualization
