Google to build new facility at NASA Ames Research Center

Today Google announced that it has signed a 40-year lease with NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA, where it will build a new campus-style setting that will contain 1.2 million square feet of office and R&D facilities, occupying 42.2 acres total.

Initially Google will pay $3.66 million per year in rent, but that number could increase over the years.

If you’re thinking it’s just a collection of office space you’re off by quite a bit.  The project will contain not only office and R&D space, but shopping, residential, dining, child care, parking and recreation space as well.

The construction will be done in three phases with the first set to begin by the end of September, 2013, the second by 2018, and the third by 2022.
