Amazon sues New York
New York is preparing to begin collecting taxes from some online retailers that do business in their state.
Amazon doesn’t officially have any presence in New York so the law shouldn’t be required to collect sales tax for New York residents who place orders from them.
But, because of Amazon’s affiliates program where people can post links to Amazon products and make a commission on the same, technically you could argue that Amazon DOES actually have a presence in New York with its New York-based affiliates so the state wants a piece of the pie.
