More MSI Wind details emerge

TweakTown managed to get their hands on more info about the upcoming MSI Wind UMPC. An internal MSI document they say they have seen “claims 6 out of 9 design specification wins against the 7″ Eee PC.”

Here are the details:

  • The U100 (aka Wind) will ship in mid to late May of this year
  • Your choice of Microsoft Windows XP or Linux (no mention of which distribution)
  • Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor
  • Motherboard based on 945GMS + ICH7M chipsets
  • Will support up to 2GB of DDR2 667MHz memory
  • 80GB 2.5-inch SATA hard drive
  • 10-inch WSVGA LCD with a wide screen resolution of 1024 x 60
  • 12-inch keyboard with 17.5mm wide keys and a 54mm wide touchpad which MSI claims will be easier to use than other UMPC keyboards
  • 4-in-1 card reader
  • 3x USB 2.0 ports
  • GigaBit Ethernet port
  • 802.11b/g Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 2.0 EDR
  • HD audio through its stereo speakers
  • 1.3MP camera (0.3MP on the 8.9-inch model coming later)
  • Your choice of three or six cell batteries; when using the three cell battery the Wind will weigh less than 1KG

No official word on pricing but some believe it will be between $471 and $1,100 depending on the configuration you choose. If that’s true I’d imagine the specs above would be for the high end model but since it’s nearly May we should have official info from MSI soon.
