Dell to keep selling Windows XP past June sales cutoff date
Although Microsoft says the end of this June is the sales cutoff date for Windows XP, Dell has said that they will continue offering it to consumers thanks to a loophole in the Windows Vista license.
After June Dell can pre-install Windows XP Professional as a “downgrade”, which means that while the sale will count as a Windows Vista sale, the license can be applied to a copy of Windows XP.
A DVD copy of Windows Vista will come in the box should the user want to upgrade to the OS.
Dell will be offering this “downgrade” option on some Latitude, OptiPlex ,and Precision systems at no additional charge for as long as Microsoft supports the “downgrade” program.
