Asus Eee PC 900 shipped better batteries to reviewers than consumers

In what Asus is calling a mistake, early adopters of the new 8.9-inch Eee PC 900 in Hong Kong are finding that their beloved UMPC has a 4-cell, 4400mAh battery while units sent to reviewers had a 4-cell, 5800mAh battery which provided longer battery life.

Asus says that the 4400mAh battery is the correct one for current Eee PC 900’s and that it plans to ship the 5800mAh battery later this year. The larger batteries were sent to members of the media by mistake.

The company is said to be considering giving consumers a free upgrade to the 5800mAh battery but no decision has been made so far.
