AT&T laying off 1.5 percent of workforce
After the acquisition of several regional companies recently and a sluggish US economy, AT&T has announced that the “next step in streamlining its operations” is to reduce its workforce by 1.5 percent.
That 1.5 percent means just over 4,600 employees will be laid off.
AT&T says that most of the reductions will be in areas that have little contact with customers with most being in management.
The company expects to take a pre-tax charge of $374 million in the first quarter as a result of the layoffs.
