Nikon has announced three new high-end consumer point and shoot digital cameras, the COOLPIX P80, COOLPIX S52 and COOLPIX S52c.

Nikon is calling the DSLR-looking P80 the “World’s Most Compact Super-telephoto camera” and I’m inclined to believe them. Features of the new P80 include:

  • 10.1 megapixels
  • 18x optical wide-angle zoom
  • EXPEED image processor to “ensure high-quality pictures with stunning color and sharpness”
  • 2.7-inch LCD and electronic viewfinder
  • Optical vibration reduction image stabilization
  • Program, shutter-priority, aperture-priority, and manual exposure modes
  • Auto adjust up to ISO 6400
  • New sports continuous scene mode for shooing up to 13fps for up to to 30 frames to help make sure you get the shot you wanted
  • In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
  • Face Priority AF for detecting up to 12 faces
  • Able to record movies with sound

The P80 is expected to ship this month and have an MSRP of $399.95.

The other two new models, the S52 and S52c, are essentially the same camera except that the S52c is Wi-Fi enabled which means you’ll be able to upload pictures to Nikon’s my PIcturetown (looks like its Nikon’s own Flickr-like service) as well as connect to my Picturetown and view all of your uploaded pictures.

Other features of the S52 and S52c include:

  • 9.0 megapixels
  • 3x optical zoom
  • EXPEED image processor “ensures high-quality pictures with stunning color and sharpness”
  • 3.0-inch LCD and electronic viewfinder
  • Optical vibration reduction image stabilization
  • Auto adjust up to ISO 3200
  • One-touch portrait button to active In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face Priority AF, and D-Lighting
  • In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
  • Face Priority AF for detecting up to 5 faces
  • D-Lighting to help when lighting is poor by enhancing underexposed areas while leaving properly exposed areas alone
  • Able to record movies with sound
  • Pictmotion feature which allows you to playback your favorite pictures and movies with music (five songs come pre-installed but more can be added)
  • All-metal design

Both the S52 and s52c are slated to ship in May and will sell for $249.99 and $299.95 respectively.
