BlackBerry service coming to Russia
Until now mobile phone fans in Russia eager to get their CrackBerry fix have had to do so using foreign SIMS and pay heavy roaming charges but that is about to change.
Reuters is reporting that Russian carrier Vimpelcom is the first to offer BlackBerry service in Russia and has hooked its first contact, the Russian unit of the world’s second-largest cigarette maker, British American Tobacco.
Vimpelcom, Russia’s second largest mobile phone provider, is also in talks with 40 different potential corporate clients while their chief competitor, Mobile TeleSystems, will soon begin offering the service to 30 corporate clients.
At least initially Vimpelcom will be offering the BlackBerry 8700g but I’d imagine they will add more over time.
