iPhone Dev Team, Pwnage Tool dead? [UPDATED]
Hopefully we’ll all wake up April 2nd to find news that the iPhone Dev Team isn’t really breaking up and that the Pwnage Tool isn’t really dead (it wouldn’t exactly be the first hackers April fool’s joke, after all). Otherwise, bad news–the iPhone Dev Team is calling it quits.
The iPhone hacking monsters that are the iPhone Dev Team (no affiliation with Apple in case you weren’t sure) says that they “would like to announce the immediate withdrawal from the iPhone development area.”
Their press release goes on to say that “criticism of the validity of the [Pwnage] tool has been reported in the press and certain actions were taken to prevent the release of the tool on the 30th March…due to these actions, certain developers ceased their work immediately, with others reconsidering their position.”
They claim that they were approached by an unnamed party to sell all of their intellectual property and applications and it seems that this offer was accepted.
if it’s not an April fool’s joke.
Guess we’ll find out soon whether it’s real or not, but the timing of the announcement seems suspect…
UPDATE: Okay, it’s an April fools joke and they’ll be back on April 2nd.
UPDATE 2: The tool has been released–check out more info here.
UPDATE 3: More good news–version 2.0 of the tool has been released which is able to jailbreak the iPhone 3G! For more info check out this post.
