Add IR receiver to PS3 with IR2BT converter
The Sony Playstation 3 using Bluetooth for its remote control (and game controllers) is good and bad.
Its not directional so you don’t have to worry about having to aim the remote control at the PS3 for it to recognize which button you’re pressing. As long as you’re within range, it will just work.
The bad is that if you ever want to get a universal remote control (like, say, Logitech Harmony remote) you won’t be able to use it with the PS3 because universal remotes don’t support Bluetooth.
Fortunately a new solution has come along–the IR2BT converter.
Just plug it into a mini-USB port on your PS3 and the 4.5 x 3 x 1-inch receiver will take commands via IR and convert “all 51 Sony Blu-ray remote codes including the PS button for Power On/Off.”
If you’re interested its available now directly from the IR2BT online store and will set you back $55. For more info check out the product page here.
