DirecTV to change DRM for pay-per-view content on DVRs

Beginning on April 15th, DirecTV will be changing the DRM on their DVRs when it comes to pay-per-view content.

Under the new policy when you purchase PPV movies, sporting events, etc., you’ll have 24-hours to finish watching it, after which time it will expire and if you want to watch it again you’ll need to pay for it again.

The same rule applies to things you’ve started watching but haven’t finished–once you pay for something the 24-hour clock starts ticking.

In their announcement, DirecTV blames the content providers for the change, saying “major movie studios have required that satellite and cable providers alike may no longer allow their customers to view these recordings for longer than 24 hours.”
